Gate valve: Uses a flat or wedge-shaped gate that slides perpendicular to the flow. Best for fully open/fully closed isolation — not for throttling. Low pressure drop when open. Globe valve: Uses a disc that moves perpendicular to the seat inside a globe-shaped body. Excellent for throttling and flow regulation but has higher pressure drop than gate or ball valves. Ball valve: Uses a rotating ball with a bore for quarter-turn operation. Best for fast shutoff, bubble-tight sealing, and frequent operation. Lower pressure drop than globe valves. Ball valves have largely replaced gate and globe valves in modern process plants due to their compact size, reliability, and low maintenance.

A check valve and a non-return valve (NRV) are the same type of valve — referred to by different names in different regions and industries. Both automatically prevent backflow (reverse flow) in a pipeline without any manual or actuated operation. Types include swing check valves (horizontal pipelines, low velocity), lift check valves (high-pressure, high-velocity service), dual plate check valves (wafer type, spring-loaded for fast closing), and non-slam check valves (for pump discharge lines where water hammer is a concern). CBT supplies Forbes Marshall and Intervalves non-return valves.

CBT Flow Solutions is an authorized Forbes Marshall dealer in Mumbai supplying the following product ranges: Steam Traps (thermodynamic, thermostatic, float type), Safety Valves, Pressure Reducing Valves (PRV), Steam Conditioning Valves, Control Valves, Piston Valves (FMPSVAL series), Sight Glasses, Steam Meters, and Separators. IBR (Indian Boiler Regulations) is a statutory requirement under the Indian Boilers Act 1923 for all pressure parts (including valves and fittings) used in steam boiler systems operating above 3.5 kg/cm² (50 psi) pressure and where the steam temperature exceeds 99°C. IBR-certified valves require manufacturer inspection, material certification, and documentation compliant with IBR Schedule. Valves for steam boilers, steam headers, and main steam lines must be IBR certified. CBT Flow Solutions can source IBR-certified valves from Forbes Marshall and other approved suppliers for boiler and steam system applications.

A solenoid valve is an electromechanically operated valve that uses an electromagnetic coil (solenoid) to control the flow of liquids or gases. When an electrical current energizes the coil, it creates a magnetic field that moves a plunger to open or close the valve. When de-energized, a spring returns the plunger to its original position. This mechanism enables fast, precise, and remotely controlled fluid switching — making solenoid valves essential in automation and process control systems.

A direct-acting solenoid valve operates directly by the magnetic force of the solenoid coil — it can work at zero differential pressure and is suitable for small flow rates. A pilot-operated solenoid valve uses the pressure differential of the media to assist opening/closing, making it more energy-efficient for larger pipe sizes but requiring a minimum differential pressure to function (typically 0.3 bar). Direct-acting valves are used where no pressure differential is guaranteed; pilot-operated valves are better for larger flow systems.

CBT Flow Solutions supplies Rotex solenoid valves in the following voltage options: 24V DC, 48V AC, 110V AC, and 230V AC (single phase). The most commonly stocked voltage in India is 230V AC for direct mains connection and 24V DC for PLC-controlled systems. Custom voltages are available on order. Please specify your voltage requirement when placing an enquiry.

Solenoid valves are available in three main body materials: (1) Brass — most common, suitable for water, air, oil, and non-corrosive fluids; (2) Stainless Steel (SS316) — for corrosive media, pharmaceutical, food grade, and high-temperature applications; (3) Aluminium — lightweight, used in pneumatic and low-pressure air applications. The choice of body material depends on the fluid media, operating temperature, and pressure. CBT Flow Solutions stocks all three materials.

Yes, specific solenoid valve models are designed for steam service. Steam-rated solenoid valves feature high-temperature seals (PTFE or special elastomers), stainless steel or brass bodies rated for steam pressure and temperature, and Class H insulation coils for continuous duty in high ambient temperatures. The Rotex solenoid valve range includes steam-compatible models. Always specify “steam service” when placing your enquiry so the correct model and materials are selected.

IP (Ingress Protection) rating of a solenoid valve coil indicates its resistance to dust and water. IP65 is the standard rating for most industrial coils — fully dust-tight and protected against water jets. IP67 provides protection against temporary immersion in water (suitable for outdoor and wet environments). For hazardous area installations (ATEX/IECEx), explosion-proof coils with appropriate zone classifications are available. CBT Flow Solutions can supply coils with IP65, IP67, and explosion-proof ratings on request.

For industrial solenoid valve applications in India, Rotex is one of the most trusted and widely used brands. Rotex solenoid valves are known for their reliability, wide product range, availability of spare coils and parts, and strong dealer network. CBT Flow Solutions is an authorized Rotex dealer in Mumbai with ready stock of the most popular Rotex solenoid valve models. Other respected brands include Asco, Parker, and SMC for specialized applications.

A pneumatic actuator converts compressed air energy into mechanical rotary or linear motion to operate a valve. In a rack-and-pinion pneumatic actuator, compressed air is applied to pistons that drive a rack gear, which rotates a pinion shaft to open or close the valve. In a scotch-yoke actuator, air pressure moves a piston connected to a scotch-yoke mechanism that converts linear motion to rotary torque. Pneumatic actuators provide fast, reliable, fail-safe valve operation without electrical power at the valve — ideal for hazardous area and remote installations.

A single-acting (spring return) pneumatic actuator uses compressed air to stroke in one direction and an internal spring to return to the start position when air supply is interrupted. This provides automatic fail-safe operation — the valve goes to a predefined safe position (fail-open or fail-closed) on loss of air supply. A double-acting actuator uses compressed air for both opening and closing strokes, providing higher torque output but no automatic failsafe on air loss. Single-acting is mandatory for safety shutdown valves; double-acting suits process control valves where failsafe is not required.

A rack-and-pinion actuator has two opposed pistons driving a rack gear that rotates a central pinion shaft. It delivers uniform torque throughout the 90° stroke and is compact, lightweight, and cost-effective — ideal for ball valves and butterfly valves up to DN300. A scotch-yoke actuator uses a yoke mechanism that delivers higher torque at the start and end of the stroke (where valve breakaway torque is highest), making it better suited for large valves (DN300 and above) and gate valves requiring high breakaway torque.

Elomatic pneumatic actuators supplied by CBT Flow Solutions operate on a compressed air supply pressure of 3 to 8 bar (43 to 116 psi). The standard operating pressure is typically 5.5 to 6 bar. An air filter regulator (AFR) unit is strongly recommended upstream of the actuator to ensure clean, dry, regulated air at the correct pressure. CBT can supply complete air preparation kits including filter-regulator, lubricator, and pressure gauge as a bundled package with the actuator.

Actuator sizing is based on the valve’s required operating torque, which depends on: valve type (ball, butterfly, plug), valve size (DN), pipeline pressure (bar), differential pressure across the valve, fluid viscosity, seat material (PTFE seats have lower friction than metal seats), and stem packing friction. The actuator output torque at minimum air supply pressure must exceed the valve’s maximum required torque by a safety factor of 25–30%. CBT Flow Solutions’ technical team provides free actuator sizing for all valve-actuator packages. Contact +91-9833175276 with your valve datasheet.

Yes. CBT Flow Solutions supplies complete automated valve assemblies (AVA) including the valve (ball, butterfly, or plug), pneumatic actuator (Elomatic/Avcon), solenoid valve (Rotex), limit switch box, and air filter regulator — pre-assembled, tested, and certified before dispatch. This turnkey approach eliminates compatibility issues, saves installation time, and provides a single point of accountability. AVAs are supplied for valve sizes DN15 to DN600. A bourdon tube pressure gauge uses a curved, hollow tube (bourdon tube) as the sensing element. When fluid pressure is applied to the inside of the tube, it tends to straighten out. This mechanical movement is transmitted through a linkage to a pointer on the dial, indicating the pressure reading. Bourdon tube gauges are the most common type of mechanical pressure gauges for measuring liquid, gas, and steam pressures from 0.6 bar to over 1000 bar in industrial applications.

A utility pressure gauge uses a bourdon tube sensing element and measures medium to high pressures (typically 1 bar to 1000 bar) of liquids, gases, and steam — suitable for most general industrial applications. An SS capsule gauge uses a thin corrugated stainless steel capsule as the sensing element, ideal for very low pressures (vacuum to 600 mbar) of clean, non-viscous, slightly corrosive media such as air, inert gases, and mild chemicals. Capsule gauges are common in HVAC, pharmaceutical, and cleanroom applications.

Glycerine-filled pressure gauges are used in applications with vibration, pulsation, or pressure spikes. The glycerine fill dampens the pointer movement, protecting the internal mechanism from damage due to mechanical vibration and fluid pulsation. This significantly extends the service life of the gauge. Glycerine-filled gauges are standard practice in pump discharge lines, compressor outlets, hydraulic systems, and any application with reciprocating or rotating equipment nearby. CBT supplies glycerine-filled Baumer gauges in standard and SS case options.

Pressure gauge accuracy is expressed as a percentage of full scale. Common accuracy classes are: Class 2.5 (±2.5% FS) — for general utility and non-critical service; Class 1.6 (±1.6% FS) — standard industrial grade, most common in process plants; Class 1.0 (±1.0% FS) — for critical process measurements where higher accuracy is required; Class 0.6 and 0.25 — for precision testing and calibration reference instruments. For most process plant applications, Class 1.6 or Class 1.0 Baumer gauges supplied by CBT are appropriate.

The standard rule for pressure gauge range selection is: the normal operating pressure should fall between 25% and 75% of the full-scale range — ideally at 50–60% of full scale. This protects the gauge from overpressure damage while providing accurate readings in the normal operating zone. For example, if your system operates at 10 bar, choose a 0–16 bar or 0–25 bar gauge. Always select a gauge with a higher range than your maximum operating pressure to accommodate pressure surges and transients.

CBT Flow Solutions supplies the complete Baumer pressure gauge range including: PBMN Series (utility pressure gauges in phenolic case), PSMN Series (SS case gauges for wet environments), PFMN Series (SS capsule gauges for low pressure), Direct Coupled gauges for panel mounting, and Baumer level switches. Dial sizes available: 63mm, 100mm, and 160mm. Standard pressure ranges (0–10 bar, 0–16 bar, 0–25 bar, 0–40 bar) available from Mumbai stock. Call +91-9833175276 for pricing.
