Description
The flow meter uses the principle of electromagnetic induction described by Faraday’s law.
When a conductive liquid passes through the magnetic field generated inside the flow sensor, a voltage is induced in the liquid. This voltage is proportional to the velocity of the flowing liquid. The transmitter processes this signal and converts it into a flow measurement.
Since there are no mechanical moving parts inside the measuring tube, the flow meter does not create a significant obstruction to the liquid flow.
The measurement principle also means that changes in liquid density and viscosity have little effect on the volumetric flow measurement.
Applications
The Full Bore Electromagnetic Flow Meter is suitable for a wide range of industrial processes involving conductive liquids.
Water and Wastewater
- Effluent Treatment Plants
- Sewage Treatment Plants
- Water Supply Schemes
- Industrial water measurement
- Wastewater flow measurement
Process Industries
- Chemical plants
- Pharmaceutical industries
- Petrochemical plants
- Fertilizer plants
- Food processing industries
- Pulp and paper industries
Heavy Industries
- Steel plants
- Aluminium industries
- Industrial utility systems
- Process water applications
Sugar and Distillery Applications
The flow meter is suitable for measuring difficult liquids such as molasses, juice and other conductive process fluids used in sugar and distillery applications.
Suitable for Difficult Process Liquids
One of the important advantages of a Full Bore Electromagnetic Flow Meter is its ability to measure liquids that can be difficult to handle with conventional mechanical flow measurement technologies.
It can be used for applications involving:
- Effluents
- Sewage
- Slurries
- Pulp
- Brines
- Corrosive liquids
- Acids
- Bases
- Molasses
- Juice
- Fermenter wash
The appropriate liner and electrode material can be selected according to the chemical characteristics and temperature of the process liquid.
Benefits
Negligible Pressure Drop
The full bore construction does not introduce an internal restriction into the pipeline. This means the additional pressure drop across the flow sensor is negligible. This can help process engineers when sizing pumps and designing fluid handling systems.
Reliable Measurement
The electromagnetic measurement principle provides true volumetric flow measurement for conductive liquids and does not depend directly on liquid density or viscosity.
Suitable for Viscous Liquids
Because the measurement is independent of the velocity profile across the pipeline diameter, the flow meter can be used for applications involving viscous process liquids.
Suitable for Liquids with Solid Impurities
The measurement is not significantly affected by solid impurities in the liquid, provided the required minimum conductivity is available.
Long-Term Zero Stability
Pulsed DC magnetization and auto-zero technology help provide stable zero measurement over long periods of operation.
Wide Material Selection
Different liner and electrode materials are available so that the sensor can be configured for different process liquids and operating conditions.
Easy Installation
The flow meter has a full bore construction and does not require special restrictions in the flow path. Proper installation and pipeline configuration should still be followed according to the application and installation requirements.
Wide Industrial Use
The flow meter can be used across water treatment, chemical, pharmaceutical, sugar, paper, food, petrochemical, fertilizer, steel and other process industries.
